"We come nearest to the great when we are great in humility."
-Rabindranath Tagore
Great quote, because, HUMILITY, to me; is when we are able to look at our self; and make changes, which is the purpose of this blog, to look at our self, and see the changes we need to make, and make them.
“For he that is least among you all, the same shall be great”
(Luke 9:48).
Another great quote.. well Scripture, for HE that is LEAST among you, the same shall be great. I take that as surrounding yourself with good people. Understand who you are, and what you want to accomplish in life, and being around those who have the same goals, and things in life that you want.. It also reminds me of the importance of treating others equally... it's important to surround yourself with good people, but it's also important to treat others well.
How do we surround our self with good people and treat others with equal respect?? That's a very hard thing to be able to do, however we can do it by learning Humility. Understanding that we are not perfect and that we cannot expect others to be perfect as well.
Another great way to learn Humility, is to emulate and learn from our Heavenly Father, in John 5:30, it reminds us that "Jesus Christ is our greatest example of humilty." And in James 4: 6-10, we are reminded that "God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. . . . Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up." So often in these times are we put to the test, our humility is put to the test and we are asked by our heavenly father to make the best decision possible.
On earth, we are given many opportunities to be able to question our humility, to put it to the Lord's test. Some people's test with humility comes from their financial woes, and even success. Some of us struggle financially and we are always telling our self "why me?" that whole song and dance... while others have all the money in the world, and yet they forget that they have been financially blessed and that they at times forget that the Lord played a pretty big part in their blessing.
I've personally known numerous people who have been blessed with money, only to come to believe that the Lord had nothing to do with their financial gain, and that they were the one who did it all by them self... and that is something that even people who have little to no money say the same thing.. that the Lord has either forgotten about them, or they come to blame Christ for their problems. We need to be humble and we need to recognize that the Lord has his hands in all that we do, and that we need to be grateful for that, and be humble in the fact that the Lord blesses us and sometimes those blessings aren't what we wish for, and instead of trying to learn from it, we automatically blame the Lord, and lose our testimony.
"It's not fair." Exactly right, it's not fair that we are so quickly able to place blame, and not take responsibilty.
Being humble, is a very hard thing to do, but it's nothing that we can't do, it's nothing that we can't learn from and nothing we can't learn to appreciate and use in our daily life. I am humble for many things, but mostly for all that the Lord has given me, and all that the Lord has taken away. I have times where I am pushed with my humility, but I also try very hard to be able to understand it so that I can appreciate it.

In the picture: Jesus Washing the Disciples’ Feet, we see the Lord... washing the feet of the Disciples, we can be reminded that we are here to serve. and when we serve others, we are serving the Lord.
I think this is a great image to have, that no matter how big we may think we are, no matter how rich or powerful we are, we are still able, and still need to serve others.
A few things to ponder:
in the picture: Jesus Washing the Disciples’ Feet, why was Jesus washing their feet? why did the Lord, who can heal wounds, make the blind see, do something that is so small as to wash feet? I think it is to remind us that however powerful we (think) we are, our service needs to be filled with humility, to humble ourselves so that we can learn the valuable lessons and receive the blessings that come from them.
So: what are ways that we can serve others?
Do we think SO hard about finding such a fantastic way to serve that we overlook the more simple things? simple as raking leaves, or even sending a card to show gratitude.
Sometimes it's those little things that mean the most, so I encourage all of us to look for ways to serve, and while we are doing that, to go to the Lord and pray for experiences to serve, and by doing so, we are allowing the spirit to be around in our life, which means we are doing what we should be doing.

In my CORE VALUES, one of my 5 major Core Values is my "Treatment of Others," so Service, and Humility fits right in, by humbling myself more and more everyday, I am able to treat others with the deal of respect they deserve, which brings us back to Luke:
“For he that is least among you all, the same shall be great”
If we can "wash the feet" of our peers, and serve them, we are in good company.
